Burger-rama
I swear this is not a burger blog. It just so happens that within the last month, I visited 2 of the top rated burger joints in Chicago. The most recent was The Bad Apple, located in Lincoln Square. For locals, this is a trek, but you won't regret the trip. Not only will you find a great sandwich and local beers, but there's a lot of fun stores and activities to do while you are out in this unique neighborhood.
When going to Bad Apple, don't expect your run of the mill burger. They serve a variety of unique types with interesting toppings. I went with a big crew, and lucky for me everyone was willing to share :) Below is a burger for burger breakdown. Side note: GET THE CHEESE CURDS... that's all.
My wife got the Bad Apple Burger. Contradicting myself, this is your run of the mill burger. Plain with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and cheese. I was originally going to get this one, but decided at the last second to go with my gut. I am glad I did. Was not a real fan, and neither was my wife. Very bland, and little flavor.
My friends each got a burger and split them. The two selected were Elvis' Last Supper and Slow Burn. For those foodies out there, yes, Elvis means peanut butter (in ode to the king's favorite topping). And for those doubters out there, don't. Somehow the flavors work and it's amazing. You'll need an extra beer cause your mouth dries out, but it's pretty great. The Slow Burn on the other hand is also good, but wayyyyyy too spicy. I don't think I could've lasted through a whole one. For my spicy crowd, go for it. Also good with many beers :)
Finally I got the Chicago Caprese Burger. Just so happened to be my favorite of them all. It was topped with tomato, basil, mozzarella, giardianera (a Chicago delicacy), and pesto. Immediately caught my eye, and did not disappoint. Loved every bit of the flavors, and felt they complimented each other well. Moved to 2 on my burger list :)
