The Incredibles 2
My first movie review is..... The Incredibles 2! We saw this movie with some friends last weekend. You know, 6 adults going to watch a cartoon movie on a Friday night. Just shows you are never too old to be a kid.
The movie is fun. There are some good laughs, heart-warming Disney moments, and many entertaining characters. I don't always recommend seeing the initial of a 2 part series, but for this one I would. It begins directly where the last Incredibles left off: a time where superheroes are being under appreciated and are legally banned from fighting crime or saving lives. The family attempts to prove everyone of their necessity and relevance.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It has been 14 years since the original was released, and Disney movies always give me a nostalgic feel back to the times when there wasn't a care in the world. The plot is very similar to the first one, but reversing roles b/t Mr. and Mrs. Incredible. This gives a little bit of a "girl power" vibe, which could not be more appropriate for our current times. The film is fun for the whole family and extremely relatable (even if you're not a superhero). It delves more into each character, and shows off their cool superpowers. One especially being Baby Jack, who is just discovering his abilities (which there are many!). Everyone returns from the original cast making a smooth transition.
Like many Disney films, the ending is slightly predictable, and it can be a little cheesy. I don't feel that this took away at all from the film, especially as you expect that going in. The run time is close to 2hrs, but it doesn't feel like it drags. I would not say it is a "must see" for theatre films, but if you're looking for something to do on a rainy day, I highly recommend you check it out.
Last note, I don't truly consider Pixar movies cartoons. The graphics are so realistic, and the storylines are typically appropriate for all audiences. Nonetheless, I know people (like my mom) who no matter how great the movie may be, she will not enjoy an animated film. So keep that in mind :)
