A
There are a few artists that played a major role in my wife and I falling deeply in love. Usher (or Ursher baby) is one of them. One of our first major events was a giant date party we both went on in college to see the R&B king. Songs like DJ Got Us Fallin in Love, Love in this Club, OMG, My way... I could go on forever. When he decided to bless us with a new surprise album a few weeks ago, I was very excited. It's been a long time since Usher released an album, and I was hoping to rekindle some old college memories. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
His latest album A, is more like a C. The R&B artist appears to go back to his Atlanta roots (hence title name A) relying on trap beats produced by the famous Zaytoven. Do not expect any dance-worthy, baby making music here. It sounds like Usher is just the latest artist to use the Migos sound in attempt to return to relevance. I have nothing against Migos. Bad and Boujee will forever be one of the greatest hip hop tracks. I do have an issue with everyone using their style. You know, the style of repeating the same words over and over again, while echoing each lyric prior. Example: "raindrops, raindrops (echo)". It has been overdone and I don't have much time for it anymore (unless you're Migos).
Although I respect him paying homage to his Atlanta background, I just wish I could, for one album, have back the old Usher. I completely understand why this doesn't make sense for him. No one just wants to do the same thing over and over again. And part of being an artist is trying new things, and growing with the times. But the R&B mashup with trap just doesn't do it for me. He is still one of the greatest to ever do it, but this one is a miss for me.
