Yesterday

I have been excited to see the movie Yesterday since the first trailer came out.  A great story (same writer as Love Actually), strong director (see Slumdog Millionaire, 127 hours, Steve Jobs), and The Beatles music playing heavily.  Annie and I went to see Yesterday, yesterday.

General plot background: The power goes out across the entire world and when it returns the legend of The Beatles does not (along with a few other things that make for funny side commentary).  A struggling musician is the only one to remember their music and decides to begin performing it.  The movie follows him, the woman he loves, and his potential rise to fame with music that isn't truly his.  There is a surprise Beatle appearance, but you will have to see the movie to find out :)

This is the feel good movie we all yearn for.  You know those rainy day films that are fun and mindless.  Obviously the main aspect of the story is related to The Beatles, but it truly is a love story.  I felt it was quietly suspenseful, not overdramatic, and really funny at times.  Kate McKinnon helps add to some of the great humor present throughout.  There are definitely some cheesy parts, and things that don't totally add up, but overall it is one of those movies I will watch again and again.... even if it is just to hear the music.  The main actor is extremely talented and sings all of the songs you hear in the film.

If you love The Beatles this is a must see.  If you like The Beatles you may not need to rush to the theatre.  And if you hate The Beatles, Toy Story 4 just released.  Personally, I love The Beatles and grew up listening to their music all the time.  They have a special place in my heart and so does this film.
