Cabra

Cabra is the latest installation to Stephanie Izard's food empire in Chicago.  She is famous for her restaurants like Girl and The Goat, Little Goat, and Duck, Duck, Goat.  The newest restaurant, Cabra (meaning goat of course), is Peruvian cuisine and located with all of her other eateries in the West Loop.  We went many weeks ago with our 2 friends (Megan and Mauricio) for Mauricio's birthday.

In my opinion, it is her best restaurant yet.  All of the food was amazing.  It wasn't too unique, which is how I feel about some of the flavors she tries at her other establishments.  I am by no means saying I don't enjoy her other places, I just like this one better :)  Below is what we ordered!

Tuna Tiradito (ceviche) - fresh and flavorful, but the cilantro was a little overwhelming.

Crab Causa - absolutely amazing.  Reminded me of potato salad my mom used to make.

Papas Huancaina - your basic fried fingerling potatoes.  Sauce was delicious with a nice kick.

Goat empanadas - some of the best I've ever had.  Flaky, not too hot, and perfectly cooked meat.

Chicken - I can't completely remember the name of the dish, and can't really find it on the menu anymore.  Either way, it was just ok and nothing to write home about.

Skirt Saltado - the whole tables favorite dish.  The sauce is delicious and can be eaten with a spoon.  Steak served over an array of vegetables in a wonderful broth.  Great balance of spice and savory.

Picarones - sweet potato donuts (freshly made) that are to die for with dipping sauces you will clean the bowl with.

Soft Serve Swirl - homemade soft serve ice cream.  It's pretty good, a little too fruity (passion fruit, wild berry) for me.  It was tough to match the donuts :)

Cabra is located in the Hoxton Hotel in West Loop Chicago.  They have an amazing roof top.  Unfortunately the night we went it was raining :(  You will need to make reservations many weeks in advance, unless you want to eat at 10pm like we did.  I highly recommend checking it out.  Fun scene with great drinks and delicious food.  A little pricey, but worth it.
