It Part 2
Annie is not a huge fan of scary movies, but she really enjoyed the remake of It a few years ago. They did a great job of telling the original story, complimenting horror with comedy and drama. As I've discussed, The Goonies was one of my favorite films growing up, so anytime there is a "buddy movie"with a group of misfits I'm in. We saw It Chapter 2 (and part 1) with our close friends Steve and Jenna, who we made a pact with to come back and see the anticipated sequel.
It Ch. 2 is the final edition of the series. The kids have all grown up now, and must return home to defeat the terrifying clown Penny Wise whom they thought they had defeated. Although the group of "losers" (as they call themselves) have moved on in life, they still suffer from many of the demons they did as children; demons that they will have to now face should they want to overcome this terrible monster.
I am someone who doesn't mind long films, but this was too much. Running at 2hrs and 45min, there were many scenes and plot lines that seemed repetitive and unnecessary. While at the same time, there were other subplots that became unanswered. It Ch. 2 is extremely scary, and contains much less relief than the first chapter. The movie overuses special effects, and gets a little strange with the origins of Penny Wise. Some highlights include great acting, strong character development, and a nice cameo from Stephen King himself (writer of the novel).
Overall, I felt It Ch. 2 was pretty good. A film I probably won't watch again, but enjoyed the great adrenaline rush of fear during the Halloween season. Seeing it in theaters is nice due to the extensive special effects and overall experience. For the scaredy cats, run away. If you saw Ch. 1, you have to check out the resolution.
