Ford vs Ferrari
Annie and I continued our journey through the Best Picture nominations yesterday, even with -11deg temperatures. Ford vs Ferrari had been on our list for a long time and we wanted to make sure we witnessed it in theaters. I can confidently say the film lived up to much of it's hype, and deserves it's place among this year's best.
Like many of this year's nominations, Ford vs Ferrari is long (2.5hrs). Unlike it's fellow competition, it needs to be. There are many layers examined in the movie, and leaving any out would do the story and it's characters an injustice. The basic plot line of the film is the rivalry between Ford automobile and Ferrari. Ford trying to prove it's more than just an everyman car, while Ferrari brags superiority in it's rich history of engineering and perfection. But the movie is much more than that. Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) is a legendary racer and his influence on car design should be recognized. The movie discusses his friendship with driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale), and how together they revolutionized American auto-making. While Ford struggles to overcome tough competition, Shelby must find a balance between the spirit of driving and corporate expectations.
Ford vs Ferrari maintains a constant interest throughout. Weaving through plot lines and keeping you on the edge of your seat with inter-character drama, as well as the thrill and danger of race cars. I found the movie educational, fun, and a little sad. I gained a much greater respect for the skill of drivers, and their knowledge of physics and engineering. This was the best racing movie I have seen. The writing was great, carried by phenomenal acting and fantastic cinematography. My only complaint was the score of the film. The 60s just had so much good music, and I didn't feel they captured that. Albeit, the film still stood strong and I recommend to all audiences.

I completely agree. Very well done, interesting, educational and the sad inevitable ending.
