Kids See Ghosts

Yeezy season is in full effect with the 3rd album in 3 weeks being released.  Reminds me a little of GOOD Fridays he created back in 2009, but this time with full 7 track albums for 5 different artists (including himself).  His latest, is a joint piece with Kid Cudi called Kids See Ghosts.  The two have been long time friends since the beginning of their careers, but feuded for a short moment in 2016.  Thankfully, they squashed their beef and came together to create this masterpiece.  Sidetone, I can proudly say I was present for the "squashing of beef" during Cudi's tour last year in Chicago.  The two surprised the crowd and performed Father Stretch My Hand Pt. 1 together, then hugged it out.

Although Kanye produced much of the album, and it is technically a collaboration, it has a true Cudi sound.  Specifically, his original work with the Man On The Moon projects.  This makes sense after seeing the credits included production from both Plain Pat and Da Dot Genius.  I have always been a huge fan of Mr. Rager (Cudi), but recently was disappointed as he explored new avenues and genres of music.  His most recent Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin' returned to some of his old roots, but this album is so much more.

For lack of better words, Kids See Ghosts is beautiful.  Lyrically it is inspirational.  The album pushes the listener to "move forward", "feel free", and grow from life experiences.  The track Reborn exemplifies this in every way.  Production reaches deep with samples, including a Kurt Cobain track (Cudi Montage), that couldn't be more suited for a project with Kid Cudi.  I also thoroughly enjoyed the surprise feature from Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) on the title track.

When first hearing about the two working on an album, I was nervous it would not be able to live up to the hype.  On the contrary it does that, and so much more.  I love everything about it: from the music to the artwork; which was created by Takashi Murakami.  An artist who is no stranger to West after creating the artwork for his Graduation album.  I recently became a big fan of him after discovering his work last year at an exhibit held by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

Highly recommend taking a listen.  The album is very short (20min) and goes by quick!

I FEEL FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
