Aladdin
As discussed when I started this blog, there would be times I could go months without writing. Annie and I recently went through the busiest stretch of our marriage. From traveling to Asia, to buying a condo, to then renovating and moving into that condo, there has barely been time to breathe. We have finally settled down, and there are some reviews I want to get out! During all of the craziness, I decided something would need to change with this blog as I seem to have difficulty keeping up with all of the music, movies, and food I am consuming. For that reason, my posts will be much shorter. Serving more as highlights and ratings.
My return is sparked by the return of the classic remake Aladdin. Disney has been creating live-action takes on our childhood favorites. These have included Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella to name a few. Of all that we have seen, Annie and I felt Aladdin was the best. The music was great, the story maintained, and modern takes on a classic helped uplift this film. There were some interesting cinematography choices, but from I've been told that is Guy Ritchie's (director) style.
Genie was obviously one of the biggest question marks for the story. The character will always be remembered as an iconic role brought to life by the legendary Robin Williams. Although I love Will Smith, I must say I was a little worried about the shoes (or lamp) he had to fill. He did not disappoint. I felt he made Genie his own and paid homage to the original.
The new Aladdin is fun, entertaining, and a nostalgic. I recommend it to all ages and look forward to seeing it again.
