The Athenian Room

Our journey through local restaurants continued on Wednesday with The Athenian Room.  Again, a neighborhood favorite, located in Lincoln Park.  I felt it was just ok.  There was nothing special about the food and the menu was pretty bare.  They were missing some of my favorite Greek dishes (sagnaki, moussaka, pastitsio, etc.), which may just be how their chef designed it.  Overall, food met the price point and a fun little spot I will surely return to; but I don't see the hype.

Large Greek Salad - can't really mess up a Greek salad.  Minimal effort, nothing spectacular.

Char burger with Feta Cheese (meal) - basically a greek cheeseburger.  They give a hefty amount of Tzatziki sauce which is much appreciated.  You have the choice b/t pita or bun; either one is pretty messy.  Burger was fine.  The surprise here were the crack fries served under the burger.  You choose how you want them cooked (make to to get them "well done").  They were crispy and perfectly seasoned.

Gyro - again, just your average gyro on a fresh pita.  Vegetables were fresh and lamb was cooked well.  No complaints, just not very impressive.

Rating: 2.5/5

Fun Fact: The Athenian Room was recently featured on David Letterman's Netflix show "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" for when he interviewed the Chicago legend Buddy Guy.
