Father Of The Bride

And so begins me catching up on reviews.  One of my favorite bands Vampire Weekend released a new album back in May.  This marked the first body of work in over 6 years.  It was the perfect sound to my 30th birthday, and I was so glad to have them back.

Leading up to the release, I was interested to see how or if their sound would change given the loss of a crucial band member Rostam Batmanglij.  He was a vital part to their creativity, producing, and original composition.  Ezra (lead singer) did a great job on this album of maintaining the great Vampire Weekend sound.  A sound I describe as ivy league, waspy, and light-hearted.

Father Of The Bride is a great addition to the already beautiful catalogue of Vampire Weekend.  It is a little slower than I am used to, but still has many powerful songs that take me back to their roots.  They sample some new sounds like country/folk, and have some features (see Danielle Haim), which is completely different from anything they have ever done.  This is not my favorite album of theirs, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I hope next time I won't have to wait as long for new music.
