Lover
I've always been a huge Taylor Swift fan. Even during her years of country music, I felt she had enormous talent (remember, not a country fan). In fact, one of my first concerts was seeing her at a small venue at Michigan State (Wharton Center) just playing the guitar and singing songs. Now she is a superstar, selling out stadiums, and dominating the music charts. Her new album Lover released a few months ago, and I'm a little indifferent about it.
Taylor has pushed the envelope with every album she releases. Experimenting with new sounds, and telling great stories with her lyrics, she has earned her status in the music industry. The second single off Lover was "You Need To Calm Down" which is a certified banger, and set big expectations for the final release. Although I enjoy her latest composition, it is a kind of blah to me. The entire thing is too poppy, and almost whimsical at times. With someone who always challenges the norm, this seemed untrue to her. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I would say it was a setback in her creative career. I am still a proud member of the Swifties, however Lover just did not hit the mark for me.
